Are you ready to find out what the Church of Satan really thinks about Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Grammy-night performance of “Unholy”? It’s sure to be an interesting take on the whole thing, and it’s definitely worth reading on.
The performance of “Unholy” at the Grammys this year was a huge topic of conversation, with conservatives up in arms about what they saw as a Satanic themed performance. But according to David Harris, magister for the Church of Satan, it was “alright” and “nothing particularly special.”
It turns out that the imagery used in Sam and Kim’s performance is nothing new. Red clothing, fire and devil horns have been used by many artists before, and it’s starting to feel a bit passé. Politicians like Senator Ted Cruz, Congresswomen Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert had a different take on the performance, calling it evil and referencing The Satanic Temple.
But Harris is firing back on behalf of all Satanists, saying that politicians on a national stage shouldn’t use someone’s religion as a punchline. He also notes that Lil Nas X’s music video for “Montero” is much more in line with Satanic philosophies than Sam and Kim’s performance. In the video, Lil Nas X descends into hell, murders Satan and takes the devil’s crown for himself.
The Church of Satan says that Sam and Kim’s performance was really just a lot of attractive people prancing around in nice outfits, singing lyrics more about infidelity than Satanism. So when it comes to the Church of Satan’s opinion, it’s a resounding “meh.”
So there you have it – the Church of Satan’s take on Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Grammy-night performance of “Unholy.” It’s definitely an interesting perspective, and one that sheds some light on the whole affair.
