The beloved cleaning product Fabuloso has recently been recalled due to a potentially serious risk. About 4.9 million bottles of the multipurpose cleaner were sold online and in stores from December 2022 to January, and now the Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning that these bottles may contain bacteria that could cause a serious infection in those with weakened immune systems and other health risks.

The manufacturer, Colgate-Palmolive, says that a preservative was not added to the product at the intended level during the manufacturing process, which could have allowed bacteria to grow. The bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens, can enter the body through inhalation, the eyes, or a break in the skin. Thankfully, no incidents or injuries have been reported due to the recalled product.

Fabuloso is a popular cleaner, especially in Latino households, and was first introduced in Venezuela in the 1980s. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only cleaning product to be recalled recently. In October, 37 million bottles of scented Pine-Sol were recalled, and in December, about eight million bottles of the Laundress brand products were recalled.

If you have purchased any of the recalled Fabuloso products, it is important to stop using them and not to empty the bottles before throwing them away. Colgate-Palmolive is offering a refund or a free replacement product for those affected. A full list of recalled and unaffected products is available online.
