Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are back in their eponymous superhero roles, and this time they’re taking on the Quantum Realm. With the help of a supporting cast that includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, David Dastmalchian, William Jackson Harper, Katy O’Brian and Bill Murray, they’ll face off against the villainous Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).
But what do the critics think? It seems the film has been well-received, with many praising the performances of Jonathan Majors and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as the ambitious world building. Variety’s Jazz Tangcay had an “absolute blast” with the movie, while Uproxx’s Mike Ryan said that Marvel newcomers may be a bit thrown by the complicated multiverse chatter. CNET’s Sean Keane was less enthused, saying that the film had “way too much going on”.
Collider’s Steven Weintraub called the film a “strong start to Phase 5” and highlighted Majors’ villain as a highlight. American-Canadian Critics Choice Association member Jamie Broadnaux stated that the film had “heavy Star Wars vibes” and threw in her own support for Majors. Gizmodo and io9 senior reporter Germain Lussier echoed the Star Wars comparison, saying it was the best Star Wars movie since 2018. The Hollywood Reporter’s Brian Davids praised Majors as “endlessly compelling”, while Buzzfeed’s Nora Dominick was also into Kang.
