Are you ready to explore the world of Showtime’s most beloved franchises? From Dexter to Billions, Showtime is doubling down on their franchises with multiple offshoots in the works. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the exciting plans for the Dexter and Billions franchises, as well as the new series The Department.

Showtime is expanding two of their prized dramas, Dexter and Billions, with multiple offshoots in the works. The Billions co-creators have been in business with an overall deal at Showtime since 2019 and the finance drama now ranks as the cabler’s longest-running scripted original series. Showtime has gone straight to series on Dexter: Origins, a prequel series that will tell the origin story of Michael C. Hall’s serial killer drama that first bowed on Showtime in 2006. The cabler also announced it is leaning further into the Dexter franchise that will trace the backstories of some of the show’s most iconic characters.

The Billions universe is expanding with four shows currently in development beyond the flagship series. Billions: Miami is set in the world of private aviation and Billions: London operates in the world of U.K. finance. Millions would feature diverse 30-something financial mogul wannabes doing whatever it takes to make it in Manhattan; and Trillions is a drama based on fictional stories of the richest people in the world.

Showtime is also exploring the world of politics with their new series The Department. The show is based on the popular French drama and will be produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures and MTV Entertainment Studios. The Department will follow in the great tradition of Homeland, one of the most successful and brand-defining shows at Showtime.

It’s an exciting time for Showtime fans! With the expansion of the Dexter and Billions franchises, as well as the new series The Department, there’s something for everyone. Keep reading to learn more about the upcoming shows and get ready to explore the world of Showtime’s most beloved franchises!
