The New York Islanders have made a huge move in the NHL, signing forward Bo Horvat to an eight-year contract. Horvat was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, Jan. 30, and just a few days later, he was representing the Islanders at the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend.

Bo Horvat is a 27-year-old forward who is averaging over a point-per-game this season with 54 (31 goals and 23 assists) in 49 games. He is also second in the NHL in face-offs taken (1,116) and is winning 56% of those face-offs. Horvat was drafted ninth overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Canucks and has been with the team for all nine of his NHL seasons. He has 201 goals and 219 assists for 420 points in 621 games, and has served as the Canucks captain for the past four seasons. Horvat has also competed in 23 career Stanley Cup playoff games, scoring 11 goals and five assists for 16 points.

In 2017, Horvat represented Vancouver at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, CA. He also played three seasons with his hometown London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, where he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup (awarded to the OHL Champion) twice. In 2013, Horvat scored a league-leading 16 goals in 21 playoff games and was awarded the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as playoff MVP. In 2018, Horvat was a member of Team Canada’s World Championship team alongside current Islanders Josh Bailey, Mathew Barzal, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Ryan Pulock. He scored seven points (three goals and four assists) in 10 games during the tournament.
