Nick Carter is fighting back against accusers of sexual assault. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, the Backstreet Boys singer has filed a countersuit against two women who have accused him of sexual battery and rape. In court documents, Carter’s attorney has accused both women of trying to “harass, defame and extort” his client, and has called them “opportunists” who have set out to “destroy innocent lives” and caused more than $2.3 million in business losses.
On February 2nd, Nick Carter filed a countersuit against Shannon “Shay” Ruth, who had previously sued him for alleged sexual battery in December. Carter also filed a countersuit against Melissa Schuman, a former teen pop singer with the girl group Dream, who accused him of rape in 2017.
In the court documents, Carter’s attorney has accused both women of taking advantage of the #MeToo movement and using it to launch a five-year conspiracy to “defame and vilify Carter and otherwise ruin his reputation for the purposes of garnering attention and fame and/or extorting money from Carter.” The filing also claims that they have caused more than $2.3 million in business losses.
