We are saddened to report that Oscar-nominated actress Melinda Dillon has passed away at the age of 83. Dillon was best known for her iconic role as Ralphie’s mother in the classic holiday film “A Christmas Story”, but her career spanned much more than that.

Dillon earned her first Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in the 1977 sci-fi classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. She was nominated again in 1981 for her portrayal of Teresa in “Absence of Malice”. In addition to her film career, Dillon also earned a Tony nomination in 1963 for her performance as Honey in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

Melinda Dillon’s work in film and theater will be remembered for years to come. Her performances brought joy to countless viewers and she will be sorely missed. We send our thoughts and condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.
