It is with a heavy heart that we report the tragic news of the passing of Tre’ Evans-Dumaran, a 24-year-old Maui firefighter. On Saturday, the Maui County confirmed that Tre’ had died after being sucked into a storm drain and swept out to sea.

The incident occurred on Waiapo Street. Tre’ was sucked into the storm drain and carried by the storm waters for about 800 yards to where the drain emptied into the ocean. He was treated in critical condition at the ICU at Maui Memorial Medical Center, but unfortunately, he did not survive.

The outpouring of love and support from the community has been overwhelming. Tre’s mother, Chelsie Evans, spoke of her son’s legacy and how he would want people to keep giving blood and keep doing their part as a hero. Fire Chief Brad Ventura and Tre’s firefighter ‘ohana were with his family to offer comfort and support. Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. also offered his condolences to Tre’s ‘ohana.

In order to help the family with expenses, a GoFundMe has been established. The family has requested privacy in this difficult time.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Tre’s passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
