What do you get when you mix two of the NHL’s biggest stars, a red carpet, a few beers, and a few laughs? The answer is the unique relationship between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin.
The two have been part of one of the league’s best and longest-standing rivalries since they entered the league back in 2005. Despite being fierce competitors, Crosby and Ovechkin have developed a mutual respect for each other’s longevity and success.
This weekend at the NHL All-Star festivities in Florida, the two were able to share in a unique experience together. They walked the red carpet, competed in the Breakaway Challenge, and even shared a moment with Ovechkin’s young son Sergei.
They ended up winning the Breakaway Challenge, but Crosby didn’t fare as well in the prerecorded Splash Shot event. He ended up being the first to sit in the dunk tank, when he and fellow Cole Harbour native Nate MacKinnon were up against Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar. Rantanen made quick work of the targets, sending Sid splashing into the water.
Crosby called his foray into the water “nice and refreshing,” and it was a moment that he and Ovechkin will always remember and cherish. The two have come a long way since their early days in the league, and it’s amazing to see how far they have come.
They are two of the greatest players in the NHL, and it’s only fitting that they share a special bond. Even though they are fierce competitors, it’s clear to see that Crosby and Ovechkin have a mutual respect for each other.
It’s great to see two of the NHL’s biggest stars share such a unique bond. And with the All-Star Game scheduled for Saturday afternoon, it’ll be the perfect way to cap off a few days of fun and friendship between the two.
