At just 9 years old, David Balogun is a high school graduate and an inspiration to us all. His story is one of determination, hard work, and a passion for learning. David is a student at the Reach Cyber Charter School in Harrisburg, PA, and recently graduated from the school remotely from his home in Bucks County. He credits his favorite teachers for his academic success and is now looking at colleges and universities across the country to find the right fit.
David’s parents have advanced degrees, but they say raising a young son with extraordinary intellectual gifts can be a bit challenging. David’s mother, Ronya Balogun, said “He’s a 9-year-old with a brain that does have the capacity to understand and comprehend a lot of concepts that are beyond his years. And sometimes beyond my understanding.”
David’s teachers have been equally inspired by him. Teacher Cody Derr said “David was an inspirational kid, definitely one who changes the way you think about teaching.” David’s passion for learning is only matched by his love for sports, playing the piano, and martial arts. He is currently working on his black belt in martial arts.
