The Battle of the Beans: NYC Gets Its Own Shiny Legume!
It’s official: the battle of the beans has begun! New York City now has its own silvery, shiny oversized legume to rival Chicago’s famous “Cloud Gate” or “the Bean.” It’s a sight to behold, and it’s sure to draw plenty of attention from both locals and tourists alike.
The new legume sculpture is the work of British artist Anish Kapoor, and it’s located outside a condo building in the Tribeca neighborhood. It’s much smaller than the original sculpture in Chicago, weighing just 40 tons compared to our 100 tons. However, it’s designed to appear squashed and distorted by the jutting balconies of the building, giving it a unique look.
As of now, the sculpture doesn’t have an official name, though that is expected to change in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Chicago’s “Bean” is proudly on display in Millennium Park, and it’s sure to be a favorite among tourists and locals alike.
No matter which bean you prefer, there’s no denying that these two sculptures are both works of art. They’re sure to draw plenty of attention, and they both make for a great photo opportunity. So, if you’re ever in either city, be sure to check them out!
