The Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year, and this year the stakes are even higher. Fans are calling it the “Kelce Bowl” as brothers Jason and Travis Kelce are set to face off on opposite teams. But before the game begins, fans are making a special request: they want Mama Kelce to be the one to toss the coin.
Donna Kelce, the proud mother of Jason and Travis, will make history on Feb. 12 when her sons take the field for the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. She expressed her enthusiasm for the game in an interview with TODAY, saying, “I’m a true fan of football. This is going to be so awesome.”
A Change.org petition has been started to honor Mama Kelce by allowing her to toss the coin for the Super Bowl. At time of publication, the petition has gained more than 21,000 signatures, with many supporters excited for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Regardless of the outcome of the game, Donna Kelce is sure to have a great time. She told TODAY, “Obviously, there’s going to be somebody that’s going to go home heartbroken. They won’t have the bragging rights at the Thanksgiving table, but this is going to be an awesome event and I’m really looking forward to it.”
In addition to Mama Kelce, the NFL has announced four Pat Tillman Foundation (PTF) Tillman Scholars who will serve as honorary coin toss captains. Pat Tillman was a football standout drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in seventh round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He put his football career on hold to enlist in the U.S. Army after the 9/11 attacks, and was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004.
The NFL is excited to have the Tillman Scholars join them on the field to represent the Pat Tillman Foundation as this year’s coin toss captains. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “Pat Tillman made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and we are committed to ensuring that his life and legacy are forever honored and celebrated across the entire NFL family.”
This year’s Super Bowl is sure to be an eventful one, and fans are asking that Mama Kelce be the one to toss the coin. With four Pat Tillman Scholars serving as honorary coin toss captains, it’s sure to be a memorable event.
