When Stranded in an Airport, Don’t Break Out the Guitar: A Summary of a Stranded Flight in Iceland
When we think of airports, we think of the hustle and bustle of people scurrying to their next destination, the sound of planes taking off and landing, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. But what about when an airport is stranded, with no flights coming in or out? What then?
On February 2, 2023, a group of passengers found out the hard way when they were stranded in Iceland for 10 hours due to 115km winds. As if the long wait wasn’t bad enough, a few of the passengers decided to make the best of the situation and break out their instruments.
A musician aboard the flight shared a video on TikTok of the impromptu sing-a-long that ensued, and the reactions from viewers were mixed. While some appreciated the entertainment, most agreed that the last thing they would want while stranded on a plane for ten hours would be forced entertainment by fellow passengers.
The video didn’t tell us the whole story, but it did make it clear that the passengers were not as enthusiastic about the sing-a-long as the musicians were. Some tried to argue that the musicians were pretty good, but skill doesn’t come into the equation.
So the next time you find yourself stranded with an instrument strapped to your back and complete strangers stuck in the same space as you, remember, unless you’re so famous that a quick sing-a-long would make an incredible story for everyone there, just keep that guitar locked up tight. People are just not as into this as you think they are.
