Abandonment is a heartbreaking reality that many animals face each day, and a recent story out of Eau Claire, Wisconsin is no exception. Early Thursday morning, the Eau Claire County Humane Association (ECCHA) was shocked to find a sweet dog, Gus, tied to their front door. Surveillance footage shows a vehicle driving up, tying Gus to the door, and leaving in less than a minute. With temperatures as low as 9 degrees and wind chills recorded as low as -2, it’s no surprise that this act of abandonment broke the hearts of the ECCHA.

The ECCHA is now seeking information on the person or people responsible for leaving Gus behind. If anyone has information on the dog or who may have left him behind, the ECCHA asks that they call 715-839-4747 extension 1021 and leave a message.

Abandonment is a serious issue that affects thousands of animals each year. It’s important to remember that if you or someone you know is no longer able to care for a pet, there are many humane alternatives to abandonment. Shelters and rescue organizations are available to help find a new home for the pet or provide resources to help the current owner keep the pet. It’s also important to remember that abandonment is a crime in many states, and perpetrators can face serious legal consequences.

We can all make a difference in the fight against animal abandonment. If you have any information on the person or people responsible for leaving Gus behind, please contact the ECCHA. Together, we can make a difference for animals like Gus.
