Grief is a difficult emotion to process and this is especially true for Atlanta radio host and comedian Rickey Smiley, who recently announced the funeral arrangements for his son, Brandon Smiley, who died last week at 32. As we all grieve the loss of Brandon, we can take comfort in the fact that his life will be celebrated and honored with a service and public viewing.
On Thursday, Rickey Smiley announced the funeral arrangements for his son, Brandon Smiley, on Twitter. The service will be held on Feb. 4 at 12 p.m. (CST) at Faith Chapel in Birmingham and will be livestreamed for the public. After the service, a public viewing will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Arrington Funeral Home. Brandon will be buried at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Brandon Smiley is survived by his parents, siblings, and a 3-year-old daughter. Rickey Smiley has been a beloved radio host and comedian for many years, and his son’s death has been a tragic loss for the Atlanta community. While we mourn the passing of Brandon Smiley, we can take comfort in the fact that his life will be celebrated and honored with a service and public viewing.
Rickey Smiley and his family have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Brandon Smiley Foundation, which was created to honor his son’s memory. The foundation will focus on providing resources to underprivileged youth in the Atlanta area. It is a fitting tribute to Brandon’s life and legacy, and a way to ensure that his memory will live on.
We send our deepest condolences to Rickey Smiley and his family during this difficult time. Let us remember Brandon Smiley and all that he brought to this world.
